Sunday Singles... Canadians Take Over Patio Rights!

Sunday, June 13th, Singles Matches
Pine Ridge Tattler
Canadians Regain Ridger Cup

AP The word dynasty has been bandied around as the Euros sought to solidify their hold on the Ridger Cup. Dynasty is defined as a team that dominates their sport or league for multiple seasons or years. However, in many cases, whether a team has achieved a dynasty is often subjective. Dominance is often only realized in retrospect.
The Canadians are proud to recognize the short-lived Euro dynasty has been toppled. They will attempt to re-establish their consecutive win dynasty starting next year. Until then they will be satisfied to enjoy the fruits of their labor with modest bragging rights, and perhaps a prime spot on the patio.

Congratulations to both teams for their exemplary play, sportsmanship, camaraderie and kudos to Rick and Karl for stellar captaining.

Congratulations 2011 Ridger Cup Captains

Sunday A.M. Results:

Match 25
Karl Vogelsang vs Gord Aronec

Captain’s duties finally take toll

Gord won this one 2 and 1. It was his first victory over any golfer named Carl/Karl and he was ecstatic.

Match 26
Mike Masters vs Aiden O’Brien
Mike Makes Everything

At 1 over par after 13, not many would have stood a chance in this one. Aidan was mastered 6 and 5.

Match 27
Brad Borgstrom vs Troy Richardson
Boomer Bombs Richardson

The former Canadian captain was on his game and outlasted Troy 2 and 1.

Match 28
Len Sovak vs Barry Mitchell
Senior Putter Captain Muffles Mitchell

Congrats to Barry for the going the distance 3 and 2 against Mr. Consistency.

Match 29
Dave Puhach vs Fred Butler
The Butler Won It

With no strokes given this was pure mano-a-mano. One up Europe attests to the accuracy of the handicaps.

Match 30
Bob Ramsay vs Ed Rasmussen
Ramsay Rocks Rasmussen

Who said techs spend all their time in dark rooms looking at screens. It’s true if it has either the golf channel or chipping tips. Canada 4 and 3.

Match 31
Terry Stastook vs Chad Kenwood
Canada wins in talkfest

Neither could get a word in edgewise so Stastook concentrated on getting it in the hole. Canada 3 up.

Match 32
Carl Teplitski vs Joe Pare
Experience Trumps Exuberance

Joe was game but again the wily vet could not be denied. Knowing every roll on the green, blade of grass and grain of sand has its advantages. Canada 2 up.

Match 33
Ken Thompson vs Dave Hogg
Thompson Hogties Hogg

Dave was spent from his net 66 yesterday and Ken hadn’t used up any of his great shots. Canada 7 and 5.

Match 34
Don Wilgosh vs Peter Wheddon
Battle of the Power Faders

Neither faded in the long run but Peter outpowered Don 2 and 1.

Match 35
Bob Massey vs Brian Connelly
Connelly Conquers Massey

Ten strokes to Brian proved too much for Bob to overcome. But it was close with Europe 1 up.

Match 36
Dennis Wray vs Brian Lemon
Wray Adds Suga
r
This was a sweet win for the Canadian who gave away two strokes but came up with a 3 and 2 victory.

Sunday P.M. Matches

Match 37
Rod Fletcher vs Gary King
Rod who?

Peppy and Gary, two of the most improved golfers on each team, went head to head and halved.

Match 38
Dave Todoruk vs Tony McRedmond
Champ Triumphant

They don’t call him the Champ for nothing. And he was perfect on this day winning 5 and 4.

Match 39
Tom Bale vs Paul Saranchuk
Drugs Anyone?

With an aching back and system full of narcotics, Bale bested Saranchuk 3 and 2. Paul sought judicial intervention for drug testing but was denied.

Match 40
Les Duncan vs John Braun
Reversal of Fortune

John turned the tables on Canada and became the dogtagger instead of the dogtaggee. Europe 7 and 6.

Match 41
Bob Fallis vs Pat McAvoy
It’s nice when a game comes together...

And it did for Bob. Drives flew effortlessly, irons bit judiciously and putts dropped perfectly. Canada 5 and 4.

Match 42
Rodger Spelmer vs Stew Duncan
Spelmer Skewered by Duncan

A steady Stew beat a sporadic Spelmer 2 and 1.

Match 43
Gary Bowles vs Brad Smith
Pitbull bites Goliath

Goliath’s thunderbolt drives and towering irons did not dissuade a pugnacious Bowles.
Great match halved.

Match 44
Wayne Harrison vs Darryl Manchulenko
Bomber versus the Barber

On paper this one looks like a cakewalk. However, someone forgot to tell Wayne who hung in with an all-round game to halve with Darryl.

Match 45
Graham Kinley vs John Wasney
Not another...

How good a job did the captains do in matching players? This was the fourth afternoon match that ended in a halve.

Match 46
Blair Wizniak vs Dennis Prystayko
Again...

These two must enjoy playing against each other because it’s an annual event. Blair bests Dennis 3 and 2.

Match 47
Henk Denboer vs Donnelle Loewen
Seesaw Match

After 3 quick birdies it looked like Henk had this one won. By the back nine it was even and ended 1 up Canada.

Match 48
Mike Tibbs vs Tony Wattman
Just one question...

Exactly what is a -1 handicap and why aren’t you on the tour? Seems that didn’t bother Tony who beat Mike 1 up.

Canada 27 ½ Europe 20 ½
...and a good time was had by all.
